walked an easy 0.5 mile and rode stationary bike for 20 minutes light effort. burned about 300 calories

3-10-09 Weight: 302 and Calorie 1992 plus 500 in exercise

English BMR Formula

Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

655+(4.35*302)+(4.7*(4+(12*5)))-(4.7*41)=BMI=2076.8

To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows:

1.        If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2

2076.8*1.2=Daily calorie needs to maintain=2492.16

Each pound of fat contains 3500 calories.  To lose 2 pounds of fat a week, I need to subtract 7000 calories a week from my diet.  That come to 1000 calories a day, which can be split between shaving off 500 calories of intake a day and burning off 500 calories a day through extra exercise.

So, my daily calorie intake for this week will be: 2492-500=1992  PLUS I must burn 500 calories a day in exercise.

What to keep in mind this week?
1992 Calories of food per day
500 Calories of exercise per day

Golf=Life..the Spirit of the Game

The Spirit of the Game

Golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules. All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be. This is the spirit of the game of golf.

-- The Rules of Golf 2008-2009

This is a no-brainer. One should conduct their everyday lives with integrity, even if noone is watching you do it.

BCBG Spring/Summer 2009

I'm not big on Spring collections.  I found this BCBG lot predictably ho-hum.  I'll probably think the same of all the other spring collections out there too, so no biggie.  These are the outfits I liked somewhat, though none of them blew me away. And none of them would be right for my body, even if it were in shape.:

Daily accountability 1-3-09

In 1week1goal on Thursday, my goal was to go to the gym once by the end of the week.  I basically had today to do it because of work yesterday, even though, technically i could have gone yesterday and its just another excuse.  ANYWAY -- I did not go to the gym today and I have absolutely NO excuse.  So, failure.

What happeed today that I could not get myself to the gym?  I had the day off.  It was a beautiful (but cold) day.  I was all revved up to continue my cleaning, organizing chores that I have been doing so well at the past week, but somehow, I could not even get myself past the bedroom all day.  No, I lie -- I left the bedroom to eat and use the bathroom.  Thats about it.  I started watching TV for a bit after dinner in the family room, but that did not last.

I was going to go out and do grocery shopping and go to the gym -- those were my at least two things I needed to do outside the house today.  Whenever I entertained a thought like that, I became so overwhelmingly tired, I just had to lay in bed.  I mostly sat at this computer with the intent of getting things done and I ended up doing NOTHING but watching YouTube, playing video games, and useless stuff like that.  I've been struggling all day just to accomplish even the simplest of tasks.

It so discouraging to be so rip-roaring to go and then have it come to a crashing halt.

Well, I altered my calorie intake today because of no gym and complete lack of any activity whatsoever, reducing it by 500 calores, and I did OK.  I need more vegtables in it.  And its probably saltier than the numbers say because I couldn't find an exact match for the leftover chinese food.

Well, the pictures don't come out big enough.  Hrm.  Anyway -- not the best looking nutritionally, but it adds up OK .  Needs more veggies.

Beautiful Places TV

This is an example of a Beautiful Places Podcast by high school teacher Tony Farley. One of my daily practices is to watch an episode of this podcast, to remind me of the beauty in the universe. I love nature and the mountains especially. Its where I go to "center" myself. Sometimes its a struggle to just go outside, so I at least watch an episode of this.

Writer's Block: Resolved

A lot of resolutions, from the mundane to the truly ambitious, are being made today. What are your New Year's resolutions? Do you think you're likely to stick to them past the month of January?
My resolutions usually come in September because that is the beginning of fall and it seems to be the biggest time of change for me.  I always take a week of vacation to reassess myself.  Anyway, my resolutions haven't changed. Its just "this year will be the year!" to really stay on the wagon of eating and living a healthy lifestyle and lose weight asa result and find other inward and outward successes as a result.  Just be a better person.  Thats what this whole journal is about.

This is my intro post for Total Health

Name: Patti
Age: 41
Birthday: Jan 14, 1968
Any other special dates (birth, anniversary, deployment homecomings - anything and everything that is important to you): not right now How did you find us?: searching through my interests on LJ
Why do you want to get and stay healthy?: That's an interesting question. Wouldn't everyone like to be and stay healthy if they could? I guess the question really means -- why do I think I'm not and what drove me to care? Well, I'm overweight. At this point, I'm pretty much obese. I'm 5'4" and 295 pounds. It takes years to get to this point. Its never anyone's intetion to get to a point like this and it doesn't happen suddenly. Everyone -- or most everyone, I guess -- has a breaking point where they go "that's it!" Or sometimes you say that several times throughout your life, but one time will actually be The Time. I hope this is The Time for me. I've already lost my 20's and my 30's, emotionally hiding behind my fat. I have anger issues that stem from and cause my fat. I have responsibility issues. I have depression that comes and goes throughout my life. I have pretty much trapped myself in a bubble prison self-hate and misery. Everyone can see me in there and noone can do anything about it. I have the only key. I have to use it. What keeps me from using it? Its affecting my present and my future. I'm not looking for a quickie diet. I want a new life. I want a healthy life, a happy life, a successful life. I want to be that person that wakes up in the morning and goes straight outside for their walk/jog/run. Iwant to have the energy to make my own foods daily (not take-out), healthy foods. I want to have the energy and the mindset to care. I know its a long road to eventually lose that weight. I want to change my lifestyle and in turn the weight will go. My struggle is to deal with my mind and why I let myself fail. I'm tired of letting myself fail.
Anything else you want to say? I think I've rambled enough. The short bit of it is: I am lazy -- LAZY!!! -- depressed, and angry and FAT. I want to be happy and active and have a life of sunshine (and no longer be fat)

OPI Baby Its Coal Outside

This black with a greenish tinge and lots of silver glitter from the Holiday in Toyland collection is a thumbs down for me.  It just looked rough and chipped easily.  Once on, you didn't notice the green at all, which was the most intersting part.  Oh well.

Speaking of OPI, this chick has photos of every shade!  wowza! --->> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lextard/sets/72157606005815083/

Footlogix #3 Very Dry Skin Formula Mousse with 10% urea

They use this product at the salon I go to for pedicures as one of the moisturizers.  I bought it because I have very dry feet but I hate moisturizers that don't absorb and this absorbed right away.  Apparently, its really developed for diabetics, but the salon uses it on everyone because they feel its a superior product.  They've even used it for manicures.  My manicurist said it could be used anywhere on the body, so that also sold me as I have very dry elbows.

It does absorb very quickly -- its almost like there was nothing there at all!  I'm going to have to use it more consistantly to see if it has any affect.  So far, I'm not really impressed.

Alterna Hemp Shine and Texturizing Catalyst Lotion Brilliance

This is my go-to hair product.  I may use other products in addition to achieve certain looks, but I need to use this after shower to keep my hair soft.  There is a huge difference in the texture of my hair if I forget to use it.  And my hair is colored grey hair so its a bit courser than regular hair.

I use very very little.  About a dime's worth if even that., and work it through damp hair.  It lasts forever!  Alterna makes the most amazing products!

Bliss Blood Orange+White Pepper Body Butter Maximum Moisture Cream

I have a sample packet of this from Sephora.  It is very thick.  I had to work a bit to rub it into my skin.  It absorbs quickly, but I think you need to use a lot with each application.  Granted, my body is large, but I just made it through the one packet for one use.  It smells nice anf refreshing, but the scent is light.  I suspect it would do well with continued use.

I would gladly accept/try more free samples or be happy if this was a gift, but I would't be as quick to buy some for myself.

Chanel Precision Rectifiance Intense Eye -- Retexturing Line Correcting Eye Cream

I was given three sample packets of this earlier in the year and am testing it out now with a night cream and a day moisturizer and a foundation -- all from Chanel.  I've never used an eye cream before.  This is fairly thick but you have to use very little and just tap it into the skin around the eye until it is absorbed.  I've been using it day and night the past few days.  Even with the lightest application, you can still feel it on your eyelids.

My eyelids for a long time seem to have little elasticity and just like -- a "too much skin" texture.  This cream seems to relieve some of that, but it isn't completely gone.  I will continue to test it out.

Chanel Precision Rectifiance Intense -- Retexturizing Line Correcting Fluid SPF 15

I recieved three sample packets of this earlier in the year and am testing it with a night cream and an eye cream, plus a foundation.
Use sparingly, it absorbs quickly into the skin.  This is doing a good job improving the texture of my skin and helping remoisturize dry areas that have breakouts and thus, repairing the breakouts.  Not at all greasy, very lightweight

Chanel Teint Innocence -- Naturally Luminous Fluid Makeup SPF 12 -- Soft Bisque 2.5

I was given three sample packets of this earlier this year.  My go-to foundation is a cake/cream by Clinique.  I had been finding that any liquid foundations I try are either too heavy or do not cover at all.

This liquid foundation is very lightweight and is used sparingly.  Its kind of a sheerer coverage that still covers.  I have blemishes that I still need a correcting makeup on with this, but it looks very natural.  I'm not sure that Soft Bisque is the perfect color for me, it seemed a little dark going on and I thought I may have noticed a color line on my neck when I first tried it, but now I don't notice it.  I don't know if its noticeable to others, but I don't think I've worn it out of the house yet.

I absolutely do not feel it on my face when I wear it. and it is free of scent.

I've been testing this with Rectifiance Intense by Chanel and I also still put on a slight layer of Clinique's Dramatically different moisturizer under this foundation to help it glide on.

At this point, I would buy it and use it daily.

Chanel Precision Rectifiance Intense Nuit -- Retexturizing Line Correcting Night Cream

I was given three sample packets of this earlier this year and have now decided to try it.

Medium Light weight, use sparingly, absorbs quickly.  Little to no scent.  When I started to use it a few days ago, I could sense it on my skin, along with the eye cream I was using (Rectifiance Intense Eye -- another sample), but now not so much.  It does seem to help improve the texture of my skin and especially with healing old breakouts -- maybe by giving balance to the ...i donno...something...of the skin.  The moisture level?  I stopped using it for a couple of days and my breakouts on my chin and neck returned.

I'm testing this with the eye cream and also with a day moisturizer --Rectifiance Intense
and a foundation occasionally -- Teint Innocence.

So far I am happy with it and would most likely purchase it.  It seems to be out of production.  Can't find it on Chanel.com or Macy's.  Only secondary sites.

Harris Benedict Formula

To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows:

  1. If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2
  2. If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375
  3. If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55
  4. If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725
  5. If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9

I am sedentary.  Exercise is new to me this week.  My calorie needs to maintain 285 pounds is 2012.25x1.2=2414.7.

Each pound of fat contains 3500 calories.  To lose 2 pounds of fat a week, I need to subtract 7000 calories a week from my diet.  That come to 1000 calories a day, which can be split between shaving off 500 calories of intake a day and burning off 500 calories a day through extra exercize.

So, my daily calorie intake for this week will be: 2415-500=1915  PLUS I must burn 500 calories a day in exercise.

What to keep in mind this week?
1915 Calories of food per day
500 Calories of exercise per day

Now, to figure out my calorie intake and exercise needs for the week:

English BMR Formula
Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

271 lbs
5'4"
39 yrs
female

BMR= 655+(4.35x271)+(4.7x((5x12)+4))-(4.7x39)
BMR= 655+1178.9+300.8-183.3
BMR=1951.4

I am sedentary.  Exercise is new to me this week.  My calorie needs to maintain 271 pounds is 1951.4x1.2=2342.

So, my daily calorie intake for this week will be: 2342-500=1842  PLUS I must burn 500 calories a day in exercise.

What to keep in mind this week?
1842 Calories of food per day
500 Calories of exercise per day
